Long ago, the Southern Utes of Colorado searched for a cure to an illness but found none with conventional medicine. A council convened at the riverbank and, after a ritual of dancing and prayer, fell asleep. Upon waking, they discovered a heated spring in place of the fire they had kindled. Calling the spring "Pah-Gosa," they attributed their healing to its waters. The Pagosa Springs Blanket features a central medallion encircling a blue hot spring, emerging from the fire below to bring harmony and relief.
