The Pendleton Big Medicine blanket celebrates the legend of the white buffalo, born only once every 10 million years. In 1933, Big Medicine was birthed onto the Flathead Reservation in Western Montana and its sacred power recognized. According to Native American belief, the white buffalo was a sign of an ancient prophecy which promised a new start for humanity and the Earth. The design of the blanket features seven buffalo representing the seven directions, with prayer pipes symbolizing Mankind's connection with the Creator. The four hands in the circle stand for the ethnicities of the world and the new beginning foretold by Big Medicine. The blanket showcases shades of brown and green, representing the beauty of Nature.
