The AICF Pendleton Singletary Raven and the Box of Knowledge blanket honors the work of Preston Singletary. Mr Singletary is a Tlinget Indian who grew up in his ancestral homelands in the Pacific Northwest. He artistically created etchings on glass that explored the traditional lore of the Tlingit peoples. The image on this blanket is that of Raven, a trickster and shape shifter who employed various ruses to achieve his coals. This particular story is about an old chief who kept his most cherished possessions, the sun, the stars and the moon hid safely away in carved boxes. Raven steals the light and holds the sun in his mouth. The sun is a metaphor of knowledge or enlightenment.
Unnapped Blanket: The fibers of an unnapped blanket have not been pilled which produces a thinner and denser feeling blanket. Many of the old Pendleton blankets were unnapped and most new designs are being made this way.
